Job Description

The crew you'll join

The Crowd Artist (Crowd TD) reports to the Head of Animation and works with the animation team to create and maintain crowd simulations and animation. They participate in the development of crowd system tools at Cinesite.

What your day-to-day will look like:

Breakdown individual shots and plan the best methodology for tackling them given the options of our Crowd Tool (based around the Atoms system), Houdini, propriety cached character tools in Maya and hero animation
Execute the shots using the tools listed above
Work on the box to create shots, as well as debug or plus shots created by the team
Work closely with the Animators in terms of cycles, hero animation and character promotions to achieve the most creative options in a sequence
Work with Animation and the rest of the Creature team (CFX, Rigging) to organize Crowd shots to ensure they are attainable throughout the pipeline
Help with the design and building of generic characters to ensure the style of the movie is consistent and that we get the most variation possible within the budget
Work closely with all crowd artists across the Cinesite group as well as the Development and pipeline teams to improve our crowds process
Master performance capture techniques - motion editing skills a plus
Continually advance our crowds workflow to improve the quality of shots in our movies

Your credits:

Excellent knowledge of Houdini Crowd systems and familiarity with Atoms, Golaem, or Massive
Good understanding of performance capture techniques - motion editing skills a plus
Experience creating crowds for VFX and/or Animated movies
Ability to work independently as well as mentor team of multidisciplinary artists
Strong technical problem-solving skills including the ability to troubleshoot pipeline issues and the capacity to resolve shot-specific technical challenges independently
Strong creative problem-solving skills with the ability to brainstorm solutions for the highest quality result within a given budget
Solid understanding of the complete CG pipeline from assets through to lighting
The ability to be self-directed and work independently
