Job Description

Geotechnical Engineer – Generation Stations

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for a long-term onsite contract supporting one of British Columbia's largest utility and clean energy organizations. This role is based on Vancouver Island and is ideal for a professional engineer with strong civil geotechnical and underground utility construction experience who thrives in complex infrastructure and construction environments.

The successful candidate will support engineering design, construction reviews, inspections, field coordination, and project execution activities related to underground utility and transmission infrastructure projects.

This position requires onsite presence in Victoria, BC, including night shift work during the initial phase of the assignment.

Key Responsibilities

Support civil and geotechnical engineering design, construction, and field review activities
Prepare and review engineering documentation including design basis reports, specifications, work packages, and construction documentation
Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams
Conduct site investigations, inspections, constructability reviews, and field assessments
Support underground utility and transmission infrastructure construction activities
Respond to RFIs, review contractor deliverables, and support contract administration activities
Prepare site inspection reports, deficiency lists, and project close-out documentation

Must Haves

Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC
Degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering
Minimum 8+ years of relevant engineering experience
Strong civil geotechnical background with underground utility construction experience
Professional Liability Insurance
Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License
First Aid Training
Experience with engineering design, construction inspections, and field support activities

Nice to Haves

Experience with underground transmission line construction and design within BC utility environments
Experience with geotechnical instrumentation, seismic hazard analysis, and groundwater systems
Working knowledge of software such as Rocscience, GeoSlope, FLAC, PLAXIS, MODFLOW, or similar geotechnical analysis tools
