Job Description

Your Role Matters

You will be working directly with attorney Jennifer Spyker. Jennifer is a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in employment law who exclusively represents employees. You and Jennifer will work as a team to deliver the kind of attention and follow-through that makes a real difference for clients navigating one of the hardest experiences of their professional lives.

What You'll Do

You will work directly with Jennifer and manage the day-to-day execution of a docket of employment matters at all stages, from initial intake through EEOC proceedings to active federal and state court litigation. Specifically:

· Intake & investigation: Conduct conflict checks, potential client intake interviews, prepare chronologies and witness lists, gather employment records, personnel files, pay stubs, and communications; identify key facts and gaps

· EEOC/Administrative Agency matters: Draft EEOC/other government agency charges for attorney and client review, track filing deadlines and right-to-sue timelines, prepare position statement rebuttals for review, and manage correspondence with agency investigators

· Litigation support: Draft responses to written discovery (interrogatories, RFPs, RFAs); organize and review document productions; prepare document productions, apply appropriate redactions, bates-stamp productions; maintain deposition files and exhibit sets; prepare medical and deposition summaries; trial and arbitration preparation

· Docket management: Own the firm's master calendar and task list; task/calendar/track/set multiple tickler warnings for court deadlines, severance deadlines, EEOC deadlines, statutes of limitations, consultations, meetings, client follow-ups

· Client communication: Serve as a key point of contact for clients; provide case status updates, gather documents, and keep clients informed and prepared

· Drafting: Prepare first drafts of correspondence, demand letters, discovery, and routine court filings for attorney review; proofread and format documents before submission

· Case organization: Build and maintain organized matter files; create and update timelines, fact chronologies, witness lists, and damages worksheets

· Administrative: Manage billing entries, vendor coordination (process servers, court reporters, experts, mediators), and general office operations

What We're Looking For

Required:

· 5+ years of paralegal experience in plaintiff-side employment, civil rights, or personal injury litigation

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously

· Strong written communication; you can draft a clean letter or discovery response on the first try

· Proficiency with case management (we use Clio), e-discovery, Westlaw, Microsoft, and AI tools

· Exceptional organizational instincts; you enjoy building systems and finding ways to continue improving them

· A genuine commitment to justice and the clients we represent

Strongly Preferred:

· Experience with EEOC charge filing and the pre-litigation administrative process

· Familiarity with federal court docketing (CM/ECF)

· Experience working in a law firm or independently with limited supervision; you don't wait to be told what to do next

· Current Notary Public commission

· Paralegal Certificate

You are the right person if:

· You take ownership of your work; deadlines, filings, and follow-ups

· You think ahead and proactively schedule tasks so even non-urgent tasks without a set deadline are completed efficiently based on our internal deadlines

· You proactively ask clients for clarification and seek additional documents and information needed from them

· You're responsive and communicate clearly with attorneys and clients about status, what we need from clients, and what you need from the attorney to get to the next step

· You're organized in a way that other people can step into your files and understand what's going on

· You're comfortable working independently but also comfortable asking questions

· You are resourceful and take it upon yourself to independently research answers in situations where there is no pre-existing roadmap, and then you create the roadmap

· You take the work seriously and are reliable day-to-day

· You're comfortable sharing your thoughts and ideas

· You find it meaningful to be on the employee's side

Compensation & Benefits

· Salary: $60,000 – $70,000 depending on experience
